Avon Cobourne Jr. on BNI and Business Success

In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast, I talk with Avon Cobourne Jr., a mortgage loan officer who helps families secure homes and get pre-approved for mortgages. He shares that his day-to-day routine involves working closely with realtors and clients, navigating the often complex process of securing financing for a home. Avon emphasizes that while the job may seem straightforward, it requires dedication and effort.

As the vice president of a new BNI chapter in Charleston called Wealth Builder$, Avon explains how the chapter aims to connect various professionals and grow their businesses together. This chapter is unique as it focuses on in-person networking, meeting at the Embassy Suites. With 27 members currently, Avon expresses a goal to expand to 30, 40, and beyond. He believes that networking in this manner fosters strong relationships and referrals.

Avon is gearing up for a major event on November 6th at the Embassy Suites, which he describes as the biggest networking opportunity in Charleston. He invites a wide range of professionals, from videographers to family law attorneys, to attend. The event aims to build connections that can lead to new business opportunities. Avon stresses the importance of being present at this event, sharing a lesson he learned from a coach about the value of networking.

For those unfamiliar with BNI, Avon explains that it stands for Business Networking International, one of the largest networking organizations globally. He highlights that BNI operates on a model where only one person per profession can join a chapter, ensuring no competition within the group. This exclusivity allows members to refer each other freely, creating a supportive environment.

I join Avon in discussing the other BNI chapters in Charleston, noting that the Power Chapter operates both in person and online. This flexibility accommodates busy professionals who may struggle to attend meetings in person. We talk about the potential for collaboration between chapters and the growth of networking opportunities in the Charleston area.

As we wrap up our conversation, I encourage listeners to consider attending the Visitors Day on November 6th. Avon shares that interested individuals can reach out to him through social media to register. He promises to facilitate introductions to other professionals who may help them expand their networks.
