First Impressions of the Kanawha Valley with Evan Casper
I’m here with Evan Casper, a chemical engineer at Atlas Prediction Control, a process controls company. Evan recently moved to Charleston, West Virginia, from Pittsburgh after grad school. Originally from South Louisiana, he’s been in Charleston for just a few days and is eager to explore the area. He’s excited about the outdoor opportunities here, particularly skiing, which he’s loved since childhood, thanks to his father, who’s from Canada.
Evan shares that this is his first day at his new job, and he’s settling into life in Charleston. He’s been to Morgantown before to visit a friend at WVU but is otherwise new to West Virginia. He’s enjoying the transition, noting that Charleston’s size reminds him of his hometown. Moving here feels like a return to his roots after his time in Pittsburgh.
Evan was drawn to Charleston by its vibrant live music scene. Over the weekend, he attended Multifest and is enthusiastic about the local culture and events. He’s also visited the Capitol Market, where he enjoyed exploring the local offerings. As someone who enjoys live music and outdoor activities, he feels Charleston is a great fit for him.
We also discuss his work as a chemical engineer specializing in process controls. Evan explains that his role involves working with a specific type of reactor used in polymer plants, supporting the software that automates these processes. Since it’s his first day, he’s still diving into the details and learning the ropes.
I’m glad to have had the chance to talk with Evan today. His fresh perspective on Charleston is valuable, and it’s great to hear his excitement about his new home. I welcome him to the Kanawha Valley and look forward to seeing how he continues to settle in.
