Terrell Ellis and the Taste of Appalachia

In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast I talk with Terrell Ellis to talk about a new initiative called Taste of Appalachia. Advantage Valley is leading the project to highlight small food manufacturers in our region. The idea is to create holiday gift sets that can be purchased by businesses, families, and corporations and sent across the country. Each box is curated with products made in West Virginia.

Terrell explains that there are eight themed sets including breakfast essentials, tailgate snacks, and one that features veteran made products. On September 18 the sets will be unveiled at J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works where all 18 food entrepreneurs will be present. Attendees will be able to sample the products, meet the makers, and place orders for the boxes either in bulk or online. Orders will be processed through the West Virginia Department of Agriculture, which will handle packaging and shipping so customers only need to place their orders.

The website tasteofappalachia.com is live now with all eight gift sets available to view. Retailers and corporate gift buyers are invited to explore options for clients and employees. The launch event will run from 11 to 4 with a cocktail reception afterward for ticket holders. Sponsors include Marshall University and the West Virginia Manufacturers Association along with about a dozen others.

Terrell says this effort builds on the work Advantage Valley has been doing through the Foster WV program, providing coaching, technical assistance, and funding to local entrepreneurs. Taste of Appalachia extends that support by helping these businesses grow their reach and revenues. I close out by reminding listeners that this is a great way to share the flavors of Appalachia with friends, family, and clients everywhere.
