Bob Bliss on Time Management and Communication
In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast I talk with Bob Bliss to talk about something most people struggle with now: communication. We get hit from every direction with calls, texts, emails, and alerts, but Bob makes a strong case that the real issue is not the volume. It is the habit. He works hard to respond within 24 hours because he knows people notice when you actually get back to them.
What stands out to me is that Bob does not treat communication like some mystery. He sets time aside for it. He plans his week, puts appointments on the calendar, and leaves room for things to move around when life happens. That structure helps him stay flexible without letting things fall apart. I share one of my own calendar tricks too, using question marks on possible meeting times until something is locked in.
We also get into how much communication has changed. It used to be phone calls through a front desk, then long emails, and now most people lean on text. Even with all the tools we have, a lot of people still vanish when it is time to answer. Bob makes the point that simply replying, calling back, or following through can set you apart because so many people do not do it.
He also reminds me that people still want real human contact. Automation has its place. I use AI to help answer calls. But there is still value in hearing a real person and knowing somebody is paying attention. Fast response builds trust, and trust leads to stronger client relationships and referrals.
By the end, Bob gives younger people a message worth hearing: slow down, stop expecting everything right now, and take time to learn from people with experience. Listen more than you talk. Learn what matters to the person in front of you. That is how communication gets better, and that is how you start to stand out.
