Mike Wynn on Sales Growth and Showing Up for Customers

I meet Mike Wynn from Greens at Short Story in Charleston for First Tuesdays with Up Next Charlie West. Most people know the name Green’s Feed and Seed, but Mike tells me it’s become much more than that.

They’ve expanded into areas like Ace Hardware, power equipment, and contractor supplies. Mike focuses on building products and contractor sales now. Through a partnership with Thomas Do It Center in Gallipolis, Greens can now support contractors from the ground up with roof systems, windows, doors, and more.

Mike explains that Greens has grown into a group of local businesses working together to serve customers more completely. It wasn’t a formal plan at first—it just evolved to meet needs. Mike started in landscaping and has been with Greens in sales for the last few years.

They’ve just opened a new location in South Parkersburg called Green’s Supply Depot, located in an old Kmart. It includes equipment, hardware, building materials, cabinets, paint, and even Springhill Rod and Gun in the back. Other locations include Big Chimney and Ripley, with plans for more Ace Hardware conversions.

Mike’s day-to-day is spent visiting customers on-site—property managers, contractors, or job sites—helping them get what they need. His advice for entrepreneurs looking to improve at sales: show up. Go to networking events like Up Next Charlie West, meet people, and build relationships.

As I always say, it’s called networking—not net sitting or net standing. Mike agrees. Show up, get out there, and connect.
