Rain or Shine, The First Red Kettle Classic Tournament

I’m at Little Creek Golf Course for the first annual Red Kettle Classic golf tournament, organized by the Salvation Army. Today, I’m talking with George Michell, who’s usually behind the mic as a radio personality but is on the other side today.

George explains that the tournament is a new fundraiser for the Salvation Army. Their committee started planning in May, meeting regularly to organize everything. It’s taken months of work, but today’s event is the result. As with any new event, there have been some lessons learned along the way. It didn’t all go smoothly, but it went off without major issues.

There was some debate earlier in the week about postponing because of an incoming tropical storm. After some discussion, they decided to go ahead with the event rain or shine. The weather cooperated better than expected. Despite some rain early in the day, it cleared up, allowing the tournament to continue.

George is optimistic about the future. He feels this year’s event has been a success, and they’re already thinking about next year’s tournament. We’re wrapping up the day, and George is encouraging everyone to learn more about the Salvation Army and how they can support the organization, whether by volunteering or donating.

As I sign off, I’m reminded of the hustle and teamwork it takes to make something like this happen. It’s all about coming together and making a difference in the community.
