Shea Paul Talks Dancing Fundraising and Community
In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast, I talk with Shea Paul to talk about her run in Dancing with the Stars for United Way of Central West Virginia. She has wanted to do this for a long time, not just because she likes dancing, but because she believes in the work United Way does for people in our community. For her, this is about more than a performance. It is about helping raise money for a cause that meets real needs.
Shea is part of couple number five in season five, and that theme carries through the whole event. We talk at a fundraiser tied to the competition, and you can feel the energy around it. She is excited to be part of it, but she also makes it clear that this takes work. There is practice, planning, fundraising, and pressure. Even with the fun of it, this is still a real commitment.
One thing that stood out to me was how honest she was about overthinking the process. She laughs about it, but she knows that putting too much pressure on every detail can get in the way. She talks about stressing over the theme, the music, and all the moving parts. Looking back, she knows the better path is to trust the people around her, lean on the team, and let the process work.
She also clears up a misconception about the event. People may think it works like the TV show, but this is different. These are not pros going out to perform. These are regular people getting coached, then stepping out there to do it themselves. That makes the challenge feel more real, and it makes the effort behind it easier to respect.
As we wrap up, Shea shares how people can support team five. Voting, showing up to events, and helping raise money all support United Way. She points people toward upcoming fundraisers and makes it clear there is more ahead. I came away from this talk seeing her as someone willing to step out, do the work, and put that effort toward something that helps others.
