Tonya Perry on Creativity and Community

In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast, I sit down with Tonya Perry at Tickers and Timbers on Capitol Street in Charleston. Tonya explains that her business offers ax throwing, rage rooms, escape rooms, and a paint splatter experience. They host team-building activities, parties, and even offer food, drinks, and catering.

Tonya shares that her background as a therapist for children with special needs for over 20 years inspired the business. During COVID, she transitioned from therapy to creating spaces where people can release stress and have fun. She now operates two locations, one in Charleston and another in Barboursville near Route 60.

We dive into the concept of rage rooms, where participants gear up and smash items like glass and electronics with tools like bats or golf clubs. Tonya describes the team-building aspect, where coworkers or friends come together to break stuff, eat, and drink in a casual setting.

Tonya also highlights ax throwing with projector lanes, which incorporate interactive games like Battleship and Connect Four. She introduces their paint splatter room, where participants can throw paint in a blacklight-lit environment, and escape rooms, including themed experiences like Wizard, Noël Christmas, and an upcoming Upside Down World escape room. Her Barboursville location features Mothman, Alice in Wonderland, and Area 51 escape rooms. For those interested in booking, Tonya suggests reaching out via email at tickersandtimbers@gmail.com, by phone at (681) 781-8002, or through their website, tickersandtimbers.com. When asked for advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, Tonya encourages persistence and taking the leap into business, even if it starts as a side hustle.
