Jay Silverman on Transforming Go Mart Ballpark into a Holiday Wonderland

In this episode of the Kanawha Valley Hustlers podcast, I speak with Jay Silverman while riding the Ferris wheel at the Go Mart Ballpark during the Salango Law, PLLC Dirty Birds Light the Night presented by GoMart. Jay’s hustle involves coordinating 2.5 million lights to create a Christmas spectacle that transforms the entire ballpark. Every inch is illuminated, and the event includes an ice rink with ice bumper cars, available Fridays through Sundays.

This is the second year of Light the Night, and they’ve built on last year’s success by adding half a million lights and two new rides. They learned from last year, making changes like moving the train to the field for better accessibility and improving the overall experience.

Light the Night is just one part of what they do. Throughout the year, they host professional baseball games as the Charleston Dirty Birds, part of the Atlantic League. For this holiday event, families can visit Santa Claus, take pictures, and share wish lists. The event’s success is thanks to they team’s effort, along with a vision inspired by similar events in Sugarland, Texas, and Florence, Kentucky.

Setting up took two months, starting in late September after baseball season ended. With 2.5 million lights and additional lights on rides, the display is incredible. They also offer group packages, with tent areas and suites for larger parties. For more information, visit www.DBLightTheNight.com
